FASTag Annual Pass Not Valid on These Toll Plazas and Roads – Key Details

FASTag Annual Pass 2025: Benefits, Validity, and Limitations

The Government of India has introduced the FASTag Annual Pass as a relief for private vehicle owners. Launched on 15th August 2025 by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, this scheme has gained huge popularity. Within just four days of launch, more than 5 lakh vehicle owners purchased the pass.

By paying ₹3,000, vehicle owners can travel toll-free on national highways for up to one year or a maximum of 200 trips. On average, each trip costs only ₹16 (including GST). After completing 200 trips in a year, the toll charges will resume automatically through the linked FASTag account.

This annual pass applies only to private vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans. It is not valid for commercial or heavy vehicles. The eligibility is verified using the VAHAN database.

Objectives of the FASTag Annual Pass

  • Provide financial relief to private vehicle owners
  • Reduce congestion at toll plazas
  • Enable smoother vehicle movement on highways

Where is the FASTag Annual Pass Valid?

The pass is valid only on National Highways managed by NHAI and toll plazas operated by the Ministry of Road Transport. As per official data, there are 1,159 toll plazas across India where this pass is applicable.

Where is the FASTag Annual Pass NOT Valid?

  • State highways and local toll roads
  • Private or state-operated toll plazas not under NHAI
  • City entry tolls and non-NHAI expressways

The FASTag Annual Pass 2025 is most useful for those who frequently travel long distances on NHAI highways but may not cover all toll roads across states.

FASTag Annual Pass: Roads and Toll Plazas Where It Does Not Apply (India)

The FASTag Annual Pass offers up to 200 trips or 1 year of validity for private vehicles on NHAI/National Expressway toll plazas. However, it does not cover every road in India. Understanding exclusions will help you avoid unexpected deductions from your FASTag wallet.

Where the FASTag Annual Pass is NOT valid

  • State-managed highways & local-body roads: Toll plazas run by state governments, city authorities, or local bodies are outside the annual pass. On these, your regular FASTag balance will be charged.
  • State-operated expressways (non-NHAI): Examples include Yamuna Expressway, Purvanchal Expressway, Bundelkhand Expressway, and Agra–Lucknow Expressway. These are run by the state and are not covered by the annual pass.
  • Project-/concessionaire-operated city expressways: For instance, Hyderabad ORR (HMDA concession operated by IRB) is not under NHAI; expect normal FASTag deductions there.
  • Special-category roads: Certain ghat, temple-trust, forest or similar roads (e.g., Alipiri/Sapthagiri Toll on the Tirumala ghat road managed by TTD) are not NHAI plazas; your annual pass won’t apply and standard charges will be taken via FASTag.

Key things drivers should know

  • The pass is meant for private (non-commercial) vehicles like cars, jeeps and vans; commercial/yellow-board vehicles are not eligible.
  • If you already have FASTag, you don’t need a new tag. Activate the Annual Pass on your existing tag (linked to a valid RC) via official channels.
  • Validity is 1 year or 200 trips, whichever occurs first. After that, tolls are deducted normally from your FASTag balance.
  • Before a long trip, check whether your route’s plazas are NHAI/National Expressway (covered) or State/Local (not covered).

How to get the FASTag Annual Pass

  1. Install/open the official Rajmarg Yatra app or visit the NHAI/IHMCL official website.
  2. Choose Annual Pass, enter your vehicle details (as per VAHAN / RC), and verify with OTP.
  3. Pay ₹3,000 online and wait for activation (usually the same day). Your pass auto-applies at eligible NHAI/National Expressway plazas.

Quick FAQ

Q: Why was money deducted even though my pass is active?
A: You likely crossed a non-NHAI toll plaza (e.g., state expressway, city ORR, or special-category road). The annual pass is only for NHAI/National Expressway plazas.

Q: Can taxis or commercial vehicles use the pass?
A: No. It is for private vehicles only.

Tip: For route planning, confirm each plaza’s authority (NHAI vs State/Local). If it’s not an NHAI/National Expressway plaza, the annual pass won’t apply.
